What you need:
This will be a step by step guide on the esstenials on playing the TCG of Yu-Gi-Oh varying from the actual cards to explaining the different processes
Main Deck:
You will need a deck consisting spells,traps and monsters of a card limit of 40-60 cards.
You are only allowed 3 copies of the card in the deck, extra deck and side deck.
Extra Deck:
You can have up to 15 cards consisting of XYZ, Snychro, Fusion, Link, and Ritual
they are not counted as the 40+ card limit
Side Deck:
This is a seperate deck at which you can switch out cards during the match after each duel.
You can swap these cards to customize the main deck or extra deck at your discretion
Additional items that are required:
- Coin:
- Some cards may require you to flip a coin
- Dice:
- Some cards may require to roll a dice
- Counters:
- Used to keep track of things like the number of turns, a cards power level. You can use any small objects like a penny to place on face-up cards.
- Monster Tokens:
- Tokens are used to represent monsters that are created by card effects, any object used must be placed clearly to indicate the monsters battle position.
MUST HAVE:
- Calculator:
- Mainly used for damage calculations & calculating how many Life Points (LP) are left.
- Card sleeves:
- A DEFINITE MUST HAVE!!!!! Not only it will protect your cards from bending and creasing it will look asthetically pleasing too with nice graphical card sleeves.
- Playing Mat:
- DEFINITE MUST HAVE. (To know where you can place all your cards.)
Game Mat Format
Main Monster Zone (1):
- This is where you put the monsters when they are played.
- You can only have up to 5 cards in the zone.
- There are 3 different ways to position the monster cards.
- Face-Up Attack Position, Face-Up Defense Position, and Face-Down Defense Position.
- Place the card vertically for Attack Position, horizontally for Defense Position.
Spell/Trap & Pendulum Zones (2):
- This is where you place all Spell & Trap Cards.
- You can also have up to 5 cards in th zone.
- You can place them Face-Up to activate them or Face-Down.
- Pendulum Monster cards can be activated on the farthest to the left and right as spells.
- This will become a Pendulum zone as long as the Pendulum monster cards resides there.
Graveyard (3):
- This is where all destroyed Monster cards go.
- This is also where all Spell & Trap Cards are placed once they are used.
- Both Players graveyards are faced-up for both players to see.
- The order of the card in the graveyard must not be changed.
Deck (4):
- This is where your deck resides in this area.
- You can draw cards to add to the hand.
- Card effects may require you to reveal cards from the deck or look through it.
- You must shuffle it and place it back in the area afterwards
Field Cards (5):
- Field Spell cards are played here.
- Each player can have 1 Field Spell card on each side of the field.
- To use another you must send your previous one to the graveyard.
- Field spells do not ocunt to the 5-card limit of Spell & Traps.
Extra deck (6):
- All Extra deck cards such as, fusion, ritual, snychro, xyz and link monsters go here.
- They must all be faced -down during the game.
- You can look at the card during the game.
- Extra deck monsters can be summoned out by special means.
- Pendulum monster cards that are sent from field to graveyard are placed faced-up here.
Extra Monster Zone (7):
- This is where you place summoned monsters to the Extra Monster zone field that are summoned.
- Through a different method from the extra deck such as link monsters, XYZ, Snychro and Fusion monsters.
- Each player can only use 1 of these zones.
- However a monster placed in this zone doesn't count to the 5 monster limit of the main monster zone.
